The Department of
Mathematics at the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy was
established in 1953. As first Department's Chair had served Prof. Evtim
Bojorov. Later on, Heads of the Department have been Assoc. Prof.
Dimitar Tokarev and Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Pirgov. Presently, Assoc.
Prof. Angel Dishliev leads the Department of Mathematics. The duties of the members include lectures and seminars on all mathematical courses tutored to the students at UCTM. For this goal special textbooks were published prepared by the staff of the Department. Since 1985 a computer laboratory has been established to facilitate the education of the students in Numerical Analysis and Computer Methods. Since 1991 have started programs in Mathematics tutored in German and French. The staff of the Department has established scientific contacts with mathematicians and mathematics departments from Germany, Italy, France, USA, Greece, Japan, China, Macedonia. The members of the Department take active part at the full organization of the International Conferences on Numerical Analysis and Differential Equations that hold annually in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
